Otherwise good

Other than the budding toothache, it's been a nice day. I got an appointment with my own dentist for 1st of February, so I hope I can hang in there until that (she only works two days a week - I want her job) - otherwise I'll have to go for an emergency appointment.

We went out to the Honorary Consulate again to vote - this time there was a lot more people. We bumped into a Finnish girl who was from Toronto and working there in a Finnish newspaper and she wanted to interview us as expatriates who still vote. She seemed really nice so I invited her and her friend to join us - we were having lunch with Timo, my new Finnish colleague, and his wife Sirpa and their one-year old daughter Ella. We had a very nice lunch in a very nice Thai restaurant, talked a lot about living abroad and Canadians and I found it just really great. I don't really miss Finns, but still talking to these people in my native language, hearing their thoughts and about their life was something very reassuring.

Afterwards Timo and Sirpa continued on with their Saturday and Emma (the reporter girl) expressed an interest in buying some shoes - and you don't need to ask me twice. We took her to Vancouver's own John Fluevog store on Granville who were having a "Renew your soul for up to 60%" sale and while there I just had to buy a pair renew my soul too (Urban Angel - Whitney) - honestly best fitting pair of shoes I've had in ages. Now only if it stopped raining for a while I could actually use them.

Rest of the day I've been spending on the sofa reading Max Barry's latest masterpiece Company. It's one of those books that would be a helluva lot funnier if it wasn't so damn close to reality. If you loved his previous book Jennifer Government, you should get this book no doubt... just check out the first chapter if you don't believe me.

Cheerful shoes, I like them! Surprise-surprise. A nice blue is a rare color to find in shoes. This shop will propably get 60% of my holiday budjet, leaving the rest for Lulu´s sport wear and some tea.

And while I´m here, tell Dragon that his non-evil plan of getting me back to the gym has worked. So he just happened to have extra tickets he wasn´t able to use on his Christmas holiday? Mwhah-hah-haa, I can hear him laughing with squinted eyes. My back and arms are bulging, I can feel them growing as I sit here. Later today, I´ll make the same thing happen to my thighs and buttocks. Ggggrrr-roaaarrr.

I was just saying to Dragon that it's the first time I've had blue shoes that I can remember - to which he pointed out that he was sure Jaana-Mari would have blue shoes and would remember it too ;) Is it true that you remember every single pair you have?

Well, at least I remember I have a pair of dark blue sandals. They have a block heel and a really nice retro look. And a pair of blue satin sandals with an ankle strap, wedge heel and platform sole. Then there´s this pair of light blue platform soled mules with white polka dots...I have the same shoe in light pink, too. Does turquoise count as blue? If so, at work I wear these lovely suede mules with a butterfly design made of tiny holes at the top. I might not be able to list all my shoes at one go (141 pairs at the moment), but I sure remember them if I´m putting an outfit together.

How much time do you hawe to wear each pair? Or is the knowledge of owning all of them sufficient?

There is no need to wear everything right away or all of the time. What is important is finding and aquiring the desired pair, having joy doing it and having them handy as the right occasion appears. Even if the pair waits for a year or five to get used or only gets one outing per decade. Collecting does not need to make sense. Hmmm, I really should have more blue shoes...
