The Celebration of Light is said to be the biggest fireworks competition in the world, with quality to match.
And truly, the Swedish team's performance "Kisses of Fire" was as exquisite as they come. Great choreography and use of altitudes and directions, carefully thought out colour combinations (phenomenal purples, greens and golds + lots of blue and yellow :), and precise synch with music.
I was especially waiting for the Abba medley, but strangely it turned out to be the least successful part. The team seemed not to have taken full advantage of several fairly obvious accent points in the music. Also, the synchronisation was slightly off on some songs.
Not much to complain about, really. It was simply the contrast to the impeccability of the rest of the show that made even small things stand out and the medley part seem a bit sloppy.
Other than that, the show was pure perfection. Ulf Söderberg's music deserves a special mention: the soundscapes varied from haunting to melodramatic to exhilarating to pure joy.
Twenty-five minutes of by far the best fireworks I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Heja Sverige, tack för allt!
Very much looking forward to Team China on Wednesday.
