No nipples please, we’re British
I can appreciate that there is a time and a place for nipples, but surely breastfeeding is one of the legitimate uses for them. Apparently not, according to the Cinema Advertising Association who has cut the brief apperance of a bare nipple in a promotional film encouraging people to vote in the European elections that will be shown in cinemas across the country. Most Europeans get to see this depraved 5 second scene of baby breastfeeding, but alas, it would shock Her Majesty's loyal subjects to the core to see this unnatural act.
What next, make it illegal?

Posted by kolibri at 21 May 13:08, 2004The problem is that in many cultures nudity and sexuality are seen as connected. Bare nipples, asses and genitals are automatically sexual. Coming from a sauna culture Finns tend to view this in a different (and in my mind, of course, more healthy) way. Most people in other western cultures have not seen all of their friends, relatives and colleagues nude, regardles of gender. I have, and although I can understand the prudish mystification of pubic region, I find it alien -- and neurotic.
(And I'm not writing from some weird cultish nudist colony either. I'm talking about human bodies as a natural part of life.)

I can understand prudishness when the context is sexual.
But breastfeeding, I just don't get it.

I once saw a nipple and now I'm like this. If it were up to me, I'd have them all removed, every single one. If God really wanted us to breastfeed, he'd given us breasts that can be used for private breastfeeding.

Damn odd. Sad censoring gets.
